integrity

"As a human value, integrity is a personal choice and a commitment to consistency with honoring ethics, values and principles.

In ethics, integrity considers the truthfulness and transparency of personal actions, therefore, it is opposed to falsehood or deceit."

(Amaya, Berrío-Acosta y Herrera)

On this page, you will find episodes of Podcasts, TED Talks and Wellbeing Gym Activities.

This kit is a simple and replicable guide that will allow you as an employee, mentor, or tutor in particular, to implement key activities that support the well-being of our students.

The effective use of these monthly kits will not only allow students to have access to relevant information but will also contribute to the well-being of our employees.

During the month of June, we will be working on integrity, taking the vacation period as a context.

In this section, you will find resources with questions and activities that you can do with your mentees to work on during this month. If you would like to refer them to this site, please share with them the mirror page, tqueremos.tec.mx/en/values/integrity as these guides are just for you.

We hope it helps and thank you for your work!

TED Talk

Everything you think you know about addiction is wrong

Objective: To reflect on how the mechanisms for caring for people with addictions are not the most effective, and what we can do if we know someone who is going through this.

Duration: 15 minutes

After watching Johann Hari's talk, reflect:

  1. How do you think you would react if someone you love had an addiction?
  2. Did you know about the case Hari mentions from Portugal? What do you think about the case?
  3. What kinds of addictions do you think one might have?
  4. Hari emphasizes having a support network and community to avoid falling into addictions, who do you think could help you if you were in a situation like this?

Podcast

The Happiness Lab

How to Kick Bad Habits (and Start Good Ones)

Objective: To reflect on how our environment can affect our habits and what we can do to create new ones or break those that do not help us.

Duration: 35 minutes

After listening to The Happiness Lab episode, reflect:

  1. What habits do you have that you didn't think were habits before listening to the podcast?
  2. Have you tried to implement or break habits lately? What was your experience?
  3. Think of a habit you'd like to implement - what in your environment can you change to make it more natural for you to do it?
  4. Now think of a habit you would like to stop, what can you change about your day so that you don't do that habit?

Wellbeing Gym Activities

E8 - My Promises

Objective: To spend some time with yourself to reflect on goals or objectives set in the course of your human development, how they have changed as well as those you would like to return to or maintain.

Description: The student should sit in a comfortable place and try to recall some of the promises they have made to themselves over the years. They should then make a list of the promises, including those they failed to keep. You will then choose one of those listed and resolve to keep it for at least 1 week.  After the selection, on a piece of paper write down the chosen promise as well as subsequent steps that will help him/her reach the established goal. At the end of the week, the student will reflect on the challenges and implications of the promise as well as its outcomes through questions such as: How does it positively affect my character? Does it strengthen my discipline? What does keeping a promise do to my integrity? (Elmore, 2012).

Closing: It is intended that the student in question identifies goals they have had at different points in their life, reasons why they were important at the time, and their current impact. Likewise, taking time to reflect on and analyze those individual promises is a way to encourage introspection and therefore be more aware of their emotions, thoughts, and behaviors.

S3 -It's been a while since we've talked...

Objective: The goal is for the student to use social networks to converse with people he/she has not spoken to in a while and reconnect with these people.

Description: In this activity, the student is invited to send a message of thanks, greeting, etc. to their oldest chat on social networks. For example, if they use WhatsApp, they identify the oldest conversation one has with a person, and a greeting or thank you should be sent.

Closing: The closing of this activity invites introspection about the usefulness of social networks when they are used to connect and reconnect with those people who are important.  It is important to describe the feelings during the activity and ask:

How did they feel doing it?

How would they feel if it were the other way around and that person wrote them a greeting or thank you?

So we can emphasize that "social support plays a significant role in health and psychological well-being" (Barrón, 1996; Méndez & Barra, 2008) and that having solid and well-constituted support networks is of great importance to understand and cope with the conflicts of everyday life.
