Valor Integridad

"As a human value, integrity is a personal choice and a commitment to consistency with honoring ethics, values and principles.

In ethics, integrity considers the truthfulness and transparency of personal actions, therefore, it is opposed to falsehood or deceit."

(Amaya, Berrío-Acosta y Herrera)

During the month of July we will be working on integrity, taking the vacation period as a context.

In this Integrity Kit, we recommend books, articles, videos and more, we hope you enjoy them!

Everything you think you know about addiction is wrong

Everything you think you know about addiction is wrong

What really causes addiction — to everything from cocaine to smart-phones? And how can we overcome it? Johann Hari has seen our current methods fail firsthand, as he has watched loved ones struggle to manage their addictions. He started to wonder why we treat addicts the way we do — and if there might be a better way. As he shares in this deeply personal talk, his questions took him around the world, and unearthed some surprising and hopeful ways of thinking about an age-old problem.

What if There's Nothing Wrong With You

What if There's Nothing Wrong With You

We often design our lives around a long list of all the things we believe are wrong with us. The premise of this presentation questions our interpretation of right and wrong and how that interpretation ultimately determines how we decide who we will become as adults, how we choose our important relationships, how we pick our professions, how or if we parent, and what determines the quality of the life we choose. This presentation is a discovery toward what's in the way of having the life you deserve and an easier and more fun way of getting there. You will find ways of releasing judgment and criticism of yourself, begin to consider forgiveness of yourself and others, start making wiser choices, and expand your passion for contribution. Asking the question: What if there's nothing wrong with you?....... can become an ongoing practice for life.

How to kick bad habits

How to Kick Bad Habits (and Start Good Ones)

We all have bad habits — things we eat, drink, do or say that cause us unhappiness. We repeat these behaviors over and over again — almost as if we are on autopilot. But we can break free from them, and use the mechanics of habit formation to make doing good things feel effortless.

Dr. Laurie Santos meets a scientist who sleeps in her running gear and a former army doctor who went to Vietnam to fight a wave of heroin abuse in the military and discovered something startling about habits.

Boundaries

Boundaries: When to Say Yes, How to Say No to Take Control of Your Life

Having clear boundaries is essential to a healthy, balanced lifestyle. A boundary is a personal property line that marks those things for which we are responsible. In other words, boundaries define who we are and who we are not.

Invisible Influence

Invisible Influence: The Hidden Forces That Shape Behavior

If you're like most people, you think your individual tastes and opinions drive your choices and behaviors. You wear a certain jacket because you liked how it looked. You picked a particular career because you found it interesting. The notion that our choices are driven by our own personal thoughts and opinions is patently obvious. Right? Wrong. Without our realizing it, other people's behavior has a huge influence on everything we do at every moment of our lives, from the mundane to the momentous. Even strangers have an impact on our judgments and decisions: our attitudes toward a welfare policy shift if we're told it is supported by Democrats versus Republicans (even though the policy is the same). But social influence doesn't just lead us to do the same things as others. In some cases we imitate others around us. But in other cases we avoid particular choices or behaviors because other people are doing them. We stop listening to a band because they go mainstream. We skip buying the minivan because we don't want to look like a soccer mom.

Healthy habits extend your life by up to 10 years

(This article is in spanish)

A balanced diet and regular exercise provide many more benefits than you can imagine. Every day people have to make a decision on how they like to lead their lives and some think it is better not to deprive themselves of anything. However, several specialists point out that following healthy lifestyle habits could make us live up to ten years longer and prevent the onset of chronic diseases such as diabetes.

An Unusual, Overlooked Sign of Depression

Thrills and depression are seemingly unlikely bedfellow terms, but they're more collegial than one might think. At first, readers might think this refers to depression arousing creative expressive energy. After all, centuries of musicians and writers, for example, have discovered silver linings to their affective plight when it engendered well-crafted songs or prose.

If you've traveled by plane before, you've probably noticed that the safety instructions say that, in case of an emergency, you put on your own oxygen mask first before helping other people. Makes sense, doesn't it? It's hard to help others if you're not stable or struggling. The same principle applies to helping a friend. In order to effectively help them, you have to take care of yourself first.
