Punto Blanco

The School of Humanities, together with LiFE, present the initiative of Punto Blanco, which aims to generate accessible spaces for the community to prioritize the practice of silence, reflection and encounter with oneself and thus promote the development of its spiritual dimension. 

In this contingency we have created a version of Punto Blanco for you to live it at home. Design your own space and live the experience of Punto Blanco.

These steps will help you define your own space for reflection at home:

1. Explore the activities

Release negative emotions

A breathing meditation can show you how all your experiences (thoughts, emotions, sensations in the body) come to you as effortlessly as your breath. Realizing this will help you to release negative experiences.

Attention to your environment

Concentrate your five senses to experience nature and the environment around us. Notice colors, shapes, sounds, movements. When your mind begins to think about other matters, slowly bring your attention back to the focus of this meditation.

Bring your attention to the present

Preparing your mind for meditation should not be difficult. The body requires movement and focusing on the sensation of how it moves will help you stay connected to the present. This can be the first step.

Listen to music in a conscious way

Focusing your sense of hearing on music will fill your body, mind and emotions with the vibration of a song in a different way than just having it in the background. Concentrate on the music and feeling what comes to you.

2. Find and gather the necessary elements

Sounds

Depending on the meditation you are going to do, you may need a speaker, headphones, a playback device. Find what allows you to hear the sounds you need or what helps you to remain silent.

Scents

Scents can contribute to create a space for reflection, you can use incense, scented candles or essential oils. Choose the scents that you like the most.

Decoration

Look for elements to decorate your reflection space if you wish, and reflect on those colors you would like to have in this space and the feelings they create in you.

Posture elements

If possible and necessary, you can add to your space cushions or mats to meditate. You can also use couches, the important thing is to take care of your posture when performing the activity.

3. Adapt the physical space

  • Look for the space in your home that best suits the purpose of Punto Blanco, it can be a space connected to nature, or that has natural / dim light.
  • Arrange the elements you gathered in the previous stage in a way that contributes to the development of your activities.
  • Allocate a space in your agenda to carry out your activities in a way that connects with yourself
  • Be compassionate with the schedules and elements that you assign to perform the activity.

4. Prepare your mind and focus on your activity.

  • Your inner posture will be as important as your physical posture.
  • Prepare yourself by having zero preconceptions about the experience you will live in your reflection space or about the ideas you will see or hear during your activity.

  • Connect with your breathing
  • Let thoughts come and go
  • Allow your emotions to vent

5. Reflect on yourself

Your personal reflection can be guided by these questions:

1.What did I learn about myself by doing this activity? What did I learn about my environment?
2.What areas of opportunity do I see in myself by doing this activity?
3.What can I do to continue or strengthen this habit?
4. From this practice, what can I contribute to those around me?

It is also important that you answer the surveys provided by your campus, as these will allow us to evaluate the impact of this initiative on the development of the spiritual dimension of those who participate in Punto Blanco @home.

6. Be part of a community

Proposal to create a dialogue

  • Find 5 volunteers within the national B&C network.
  • Prepare a monthly schedule for sharing best practices and experiences in Punto Blanco @home.
  • Share on social networks the benefits of developing a habit of practicing silence, and your learnings with Punto Blanco @home.
  • Be part of a dialogue, allow an exchange of ideas, different practices and spaces, always keeping an open mind to ideas in the community.

  • The Punto Blanco @home space will be unique to each person, so it is important to choose those elements and activities that contribute to our own spiritual development.
  • The Punto Blanco @home community will be an essential part of sharing recommendations and best practices as they develop, while maintaining Punto Blanco's plurality of perspectives.
